This was the second of five Cliff Houses built on the same site. This one was constructed in 1898, survived the 1906 earthquake and burned down the following year.

The construction of the Golden Gate Bridge began in 1932 and was completed in 1937. The opening of the Golden Gate Bridge was celebrated on May 27, 1937.
